Mission

The Education Task Force monitors federal legislation and regulations that address the educational needs of children with disabilities and their families, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) programs. The Education Task Force advocates for enhance opportunities for children under these laws.

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is the largest coalition of national organizations working together to advocate for federal public policy that ensures the self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society. The Education Task Force proactively monitors federal legislation and regulations that address the educational needs of children with disabilities and their families, including the 7.7 million infants, children, youth and young adults

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is the largest coalition of national organizations working together to advocate for federal public policy that ensures the self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society. The Education Task Force proactively monitors federal legislation and regulations that address the educational needs of children with disabilities and their families, including the 7.7 million infants, children, youth and young adults eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) who must be provided a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) and maintain their rights to an individualized education program (IEP) that is implemented in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is the largest coalition of national organizations working together to advocate for Federal public policy that ensures the self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration, and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society. As co-chairs of the CCD Education Task force, we are pleased to provide comments to the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) public information gathering process focused on improving enforcement of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX).

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the health and safety of all students, families, and educators must be the first priority. As the U.S. Department of Education (Department) moves forward to provide new flexibility to states regarding assessment and accountability requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities Education Task Force (CCD) encourages the Department to reject any state waiver request that has the potential to marginalize or discriminate against our most vulnerable students, including students with disabilities.

CCD Education Taskforce on the Importance of State Assessments & Strong Accountability for Students with Disabilities
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it unprecedented challenges, particularly for students who have been historically underserved and marginalized, including the nation’s 7 million students with disabilities. The experience of students with disabilities has varied dramatically from district to district and state to state. For example, some students have not received the services guaranteed to them through their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and others have developed new and different needs as a result of the disruption the pandemic has caused.
